The arrest of Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy became the biggest story of the last weekend before free agency, until the district attorney announced Worthy won’t be charged at this time.

The alleged victim has since sought and obtained a temporary protective order against Worthy. Via Cory Mose of KVUE in Austin, the attorneys for Tia Jones, Worthy’s ex-fiancé, have issued a statement. (The document shows the wrong date, in two different ways: March 15 (not 12), 2024 (not 2025).)

“Today, Tia Jones filed an application for a protective order against Xavier Worthy, based [on] his violent actions against her culminating on the night of March 7, 2025,” the statement explains. “Based upon the truthful information provided by Ms. Jones, a judge has granted a temporary protective order on her behalf. She is fully cooperating with law enforcement as they continue to actively investigate the violence that occurred that night.

“Ms. Jones has chosen to use her voice to speak up for herself. In so doing, she looks forward to the facts and circumstances of that night coming to light through the formal legal process, and getting the justice that she deserves. She appreciates the support that she has received thus far.”

Worthy’s attorneys, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, have responded to the statement.

“We are aware of the civil court (not criminal court) filing by Ms. Jones and her criminal defense team,” they said in a release issued to PFT. “Mr. Worthy denies each of the allegations by Ms. Jones. Unfortunately, false allegations continue to be made, this time in civil court. Today the accuser returned items stolen from Mr. Worthy’s residence while he was in jail and there are items still missing from when he was incarcerated. Mr. Worthy maintains his innocence and stands by the conclusions of the District Attorney after law enforcement’s review of Ms. Jones’ unfounded allegations.”

Reference in the statement to Ms. Jones’s “criminal defense team” suggests that she could be facing potential scrutiny, whether for alleged violence committed against Worthy, alleged damage to his property, or alleged theft from his residence.

The Chiefs have opened up a major chunk of cap space ahead of Wednesday afternoon’s start to the new league year.

Field Yates of ESPN reports that they have restructured the contracts of quarterback Patrick Mahomes and defensive tackle Chris Jones. The moves create over $49 million in cap room for the team to use.

Some of that space will go to offensive tackle Jaylon Moore, running back Elijah Mitchell, and cornerback Kristian Fulton after they agreed to deals with the team this week.

Mahomes’s deal runs through the 2031 season and the structure of the pact could come up for further discussion in the wake of Josh Allen’s massive extension in Buffalo. Jones is signed through 2028.

Veteran receiver Demarcus Robinson, after two years with the Rams, is staying in the NFC West.

Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Robinson has agreed to terms with the 49ers. It’s a two-year, $9.5 million deal with $6 million fully guaranteed.

A fourth-round pick of the Chiefs in 2016, Robinson spent six years in Kansas City. He was a member of the Super Bowl LIV championship team.

Robinson played for the Ravens in 2022 and then the Rams. Last year, he caught 31 passes for a career-high 505 receiving yards and a career-high seven touchdowns.

He was charged with misdemeanor DUI in January, after a November 2024 arrest. He faces a potential suspension by the league, once the case is resolved. Rams G.M. Les Snead alluded to the situation when asked he told reporters last week about the possibility of Robinson returning in 2025.

“He does have some things that he has to work through legally in the offseason that could prevent some playtime in the future,” Snead said regarding Robinson. “That’s the reality. That’s what you have to work through. We appreciate what he’s definitely done.”

He’ll be doing it moving forward in San Francisco, where Deebo Samuel is less than a day from being traded and Brandon Aiyuk is recovering from a torn ACL. The top healthy receivers are Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall.

DeAndre Hopkins is headed to another AFC contender.

According to multiple reports, Hopkins has agreed to a one-year deal with the Ravens.

The initial numbers indicate Hopkins’ contract is worth $5 million with a maximum value of $6 million.

Hopkins, 32, was traded from the Titans to the Chiefs midway through the 2024 season. He ended up appearing in 10 games for the club with five starts, catching 41 passes for 437 yards with four touchdowns. He then caught three passes for 29 yards with a TD in three postseason games.

A three-time AP first-team All-Pro, Hopkins finished with over 1,000 yards as recently as 2023, when he caught 75 passes for 1,057 yards with seven touchdowns for Tennessee.

He’s eclipsed that 1,000-yard mark seven times since the Texans selected him at No. 27 overall in the 2013 draft.

No. 77 on PFT’s top 100 free agents of 2025, Hopkins has caught 984 passes for 12,965 yards with 83 touchdowns in his 12-year career.

The Chiefs have brought back a pair of players on Tuesday.

Per the transaction wire, Kansas City signed tight end Robert Tonyan and linebacker Cole Christiansen.

Tonyan, 30, was on the Chiefs’ practice squad in 2024 but did not appear in a game after coming over from Minnesota. He last caught a pass in 2023 when he appeared in 17 games for the Bears.

In 90 games for Green Bay, Chicago, and Minnesota, Tonyan has 148 receptions for 1,549 yards with 17 touchdowns.

Christiansen, 27, appeared in nine games for the Chiefs exclusively on special teams. He was on the field for 141 snaps in 2024. He’s been with the Chiefs for the last three seasons.

The Saints worked out a new contract with Tyrann Mathieu on Tuesday and then moved on to adding another safety to their defense.

According to multiple reports, they have agreed to terms with Justin Reid. It is a three-year deal for Reid and it is worth $31.5 million with $22.25 million in guaranteed money.

It will be a homecoming of sorts for Reid as he grew up in Louisiana before heading to Stanford for college.

Reid helped the Chiefs to three Super Bowls in his three seasons with the team and capped his time in Kansas City with 87 tackles, two interceptions, and nine passes defensed in the 2024 regular season. He had 19 tackles in a playoff run that culminated in a loss to the Eagles in the stadium that Reid will now call home.

Cornerback Kristian Fulton couldn’t beat the Chiefs as a member of the Chargers in 2024 and he’ll be joining them in 2025.

According to multiple reports on Tuesday, the Chiefs have agreed to terms on a two-year deal with Fulton. The deal calls for Fulton to make $20 million with $15 million in guaranteed money.

Fulton signed a one-year deal with the Chargers last year after spending four seasons with the Titans. He started 15 games over the regular season and playoffs and finished the year with 51 tackles, an interception, and seven passes defensed.

The Chiefs have also made agreements with running back Elijah Mitchell and tackle Jaylon Moore since the free agency negotiating period began on Monday.

The Chiefs are re-signing their long snapper.

The team agreed to a fully guaranteed one-year, $1.65 million deal with James Winchester, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

The 2025 season will mark Winchester’s 11th NFL season, all with the Chiefs.

He has played 164 of a possible 164 games in that time, taking 1,431 snaps.

Punter Matt Araiza also is returning after the Chiefs tendered him as an exclusive rights free agent. Harrison Butker remains as the kicker, with the Chiefs sporting some of the league’s best special teams.

The Browns made a quarterback move today, via a trade that brought Kenny Pickett to Cleveland in exchange for 2023 fifth-round draft pick Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a 2025 fifth-round draft pick. They’re quite possibly not done.

Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports that the Browns remain likely to look for a veteran quarterback who will serve as a “bridge” option until a rookie is ready. Pickett, per Cabot, is there “to compete.”

Pickett fits one important factor for the Browns. He’s cheap. His base salary for 2025 is $2.623 million.

As mentioned Sunday, one name to watch is Carson Wentz. He also will be cheap. Which is critical for the Browns, as they continue to deal with the mess they made when giving Deshaun Watson a five-year, $230 million fully-guaranteed contract in 2022.
