Belfast City Council has been urged to formally mark a hidden burial ground containing more than 10,000 bodies dating back to the Irish famine.

Mr Carayol, who is with the Humanity For Grenfell group and lost a niece and cousin in the fire, said some families see the tower as a "burial ground".

Natural burial grounds are dotted across the UK and bear little resemblance to normal cemeteries – trees and wildflowers replace man-made grave markings, and no pesticides are used.

Closed burial grounds could also be reopened as part of the plans.

There had previously been a ban on dogs entering Edinburgh’s 43 burial grounds, but this was lifted during the Covid lockdown.
