As she walks the neighbourhood, Ms Pichardo finds people passed out on the pavement, a woman in a stupor with her trousers down, a man lying prone next to a metro turnstile, another man in a wheelchair, his eyes closed and money in his hands.

“It basically says you’ve got a wildland piece and an urban area or agricultural area next to it,” he said.

"By building next to the existing site, we will be able to preserve the essence of Old Trafford," Ratcliffe said.

The new stadium is to be built next to Old Trafford, which Ratcliffe hopes will "preserve the essence" of their current home.
