Extradition treaties allow repatriation of people accused of crimes between countries.

The Pakistani government says it ensures "no one is mistreated or harassed during the repatriation process".

"The repatriation was carried out in accordance with the laws of China and Thailand, international law and international practice," the foreign ministry said.

Ms Ciolac said she made an effort to set up the repatriation of Mr Ciolac's body to Romania, but could not attend the funeral as she was pregnant with her third child at the time.

The original repatriation request had included three sets of human remains which could not be located at the time.
