Pacific Palisades residents who have been unable to safely use their tap water due to carcinogens in the system have a new tool to track their utility’s progress in flushing out the contaminants.

While residents in the Palisades and Eaton fire areas can use tap water for some limited purposes, the detection of a carcinogen in the systems can pose some risks.

With no idea what contaminants could be in the water, they advised residents to avoid tap water altogether.

People who champion raw water claim it has health benefits, such as essential minerals and beneficial bacteria called probiotics, that are stripped from tap water.

A new study published in BMJ Global Health suggests that drinking tap water might be "healthier" than bottled water.
