On Wednesday, in honor of Lent, a Black Georgia pastor, the Rev. Jamal Bryant of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, called for a 40-day “Target fast.”

In these works, she used a collage of words and images from newspapers and magazines to convey her messages, paired with portraits of Cesar Chavez, the Rev. Martin Luther King, Coretta Scott King and the Kennedys.

“It was sort of breathtaking,” said the Rev. Carri Patterson Grindon of receiving the grant.

The Rev. Al Sharpton will visit Pasadena on Thursday to lead a memorial service and a rally for victims of the Los Angeles fires.

The service, hosted by the Rev Canon Dr Dominic Black, included singing by the Choral-Hull children's choir, made up from pupils across the city.
