wriggle out

As the dreaded emails started landing in their inboxes last week, many would-be workers were left scrambling, wondering if they needed to cancel travel plans, wriggle out of leases and line up other summer employment.

I'm not just saying that to wriggle out of trouble.

“And now you want to wriggle out of it and inconvenience all these people. It just gets you off the hook with your problem killing fish.”

You can often find me yelling through the screen at gumshoes who, alone with a killer, announce that they know what they did and how they did and therefore must wriggle out of danger one more time.

“Just the thought of squeezing him while he’s scratching me arms, trying to wriggle out,” he recalled saying.
