Sebastian Bludd was born in San Diego to an American mother and an Australian father. Early in his childhood, the family moved back to their family farm in Australia; when the authorities foreclosed the farm, Bludd's grandfather committed suicide. To alleviate his family's crushing debt, the young Sebastian enlisted with the Australian Special Air Service Regiment and soon attained the rank of Major. While deployed overseas, however, Bludd and his men profited off local crime by providing off-the-books security arrangements for various local drug lords. However, when Bludd's men went too far by massacring a busload of mercenaries, Sebastian murdered his men, deserted the military, and settled in Eastern Europe, where he married a woman named Catherine.

The pair made a living as mercenaries; in the early 1990s, the two ran guns for Colonel Shtern, though Bludd was unaware that his wife was having an affair with another man named Danny. Eventually, Catherine betrayed her husband by engineering his arrest; when Schtern released him from prison, Bludd tracked down and murdered his wife and her lover, but not before Catherine stabbed him in the face and cost him the use of his left eye. Major Bludd returned to America, where he reunited with his widowed father, married again, and sired a son and daughter. This time, however, Bludd kept his mercenary career a secret from his new family, even after the Baroness recruited him into the Cobra organization.

As a member of Cobra, Bludd ran operations in Southeast Asia; notably, he was responsible for recruiting Krake, who would eventually ascend to become Cobra Commander, into the organization. During Krake's tenure as leader, Bludd operated in Russia and Nanzhao as both a Cobra operative and an independent mercenary; while in the latter country, he formed a secret alliance with Tomax and Serpentor. By this point, however, the once-secret conflict between G.I. Joe had escalated into open warfare that culminated in the nuclear annihilation of Nanzhao. In the wake of the country's destruction, Serpentor revealed their secret alliance to the Baroness and let Bludd take the blame. Major Bludd fled, and after murdering a United Nations soldier he was taken into custody; Major Bludd profile in the wake of the nuclear disaster most members of the international intelligence community assumed that he had perished. Schtern and the rest of the Oktober Guard broke Bludd out of prison and transferred him to a captured Cobra base. When Cobra attacked the facility, Bludd killed Schtern, took control of the base's weaponry, and used it to destroy both the camp and a government building in Vladivostok. The Russian government assumed that their special forces had gone rogue, and with no other options the men and women of the Guard joined forces with Bludd and went underground, where they served as mercenaries for several years. In 2017, Major Bludd and the rest of the Oktober Guard entered an alliance with the Iron Ring, an international cabal of supervillains led by the mysterious "Baron Ironblood"—in reality, an identity adopted by ex-G.I. Joe leader Joe Colton. On their first assignment, the team were deployed to Schleteva to recover an alien Talisman, which had spontaneously mutated the entire population of Verenya into Dire Wraith hybrids—after breaking into an abandoned SIS bunker, the team came into conflict with Action Man, Rom, G.B. Blackrock, and a G.I. Joe detachment led by Mayday. In the ensuing battle, the Talisman activated for a second time, and Bludd was partly exposed to its mutagenic energy—before the transformation spread to the rest of his body, however, Daina conducted an impromptu amputation and severed the afflicted arm. The Oktober Guard nearly escaped with the artifact, and were preparing to return to their current base of operations when Kup ran them off the road. As Action Man prepared to bring the defeated villains in, Bludd scuppered the mission and tripped the M.A.S.S. Device, returning him and the team to the Section Sabine moonbase. Crisis Intervention At some point after this, Bludd had his missing right arm replaced with a cybernetic prothesis derived from Talisman technology. Major Bludd profile

Some time later, Bludd and the Oktober Guard joined the rest of the Iron Ring as they made a full-scale assault on an Onyx facility in Buenos Aires to liberate the Talisman from Action Man and the rest of the "Revolutionaries". When Eagles Scream In the ensuing fight, Bludd found himself on the wrong end of Mayday's fist; he was next seen teleporting out with the other members of the Iron Ring to the Iron Castle in Kalistan. With the Talisman now firmly in their hands, Colton announced that they would use the Talisman to take the fight to Cybertron. Ghost in the Machine One Unholy Machine
