Kuo still thinks Apple’s smart home screen could ship this year.

Apple supposedly set its rumored HomePod with screen for launch in March before delaying it to Q3 2025. Now supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says it will come after WWDC (and the expected reveal of iOS 19) so that the new smart home device’s interface “aligns with new OS updates.”

All this bad AI is wrecking a whole generation of gadgets

We were promised multimodal, natural language, AI-powered everything. We got nothing of the sort.

You can add buttons, dials, and a grip to this retro camera smartphone case.

With a leather back and textured metal frame, Fotorgear’s new $199 case makes the iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max look and feel like a retro camera. But it goes one step further with a modular design letting its side rails be swapped for more functional alternatives.

You can add a grip with a tripod mount, plus dials and buttons that provide quick access to settings and filters when used with Fotorgear’s own camera app.

The case gives the iPhone 16 Pro models a more rounded finish on the top and bottom.
Several of the modular attachments include a cold shoe mount for attaching lights or microphones to the case.
The case also allows filters and lenses to be attached to the back of the iPhone, expanding its photographic capabilities.

The Super Nintendo is somehow getting faster with age.

We’ve come to expect reduced performance from aging hardware, but some gamers have discovered the opposite with the Super Nintendo, as spotted by Time Extension.

The SNES’ main CPU, featuring a quartz crystal, is okay. But the console’s audio processing unit, which uses a ceramic resonator, is now running faster and speeds up as the hardware warms. The issue will potentially produce higher pitched sounds, but it’s not yet known if it will affect gameplay.

You can now wake up to the classic Super Mario Bros. theme.

As part of the company’s various promotions and announcements tied to “MAR10 Day,” Nintendo is releasing a free Super Mario Bros. theme for its Alarmo clock today featuring scenes and sounds from the NES classic.

You’ll need Alarmo connected to the internet and linked to your Nintendo account to download the theme, while Nintendo’s Japanese site has shared a preview of a couple of tracks included from the game.

There’s always been a Baggins, living here under the hill.

Lego leaked a new Lord of the Rings kit called The Shire in a since-removed event posting on its site spotted by Jay’s Brick Blog. The kit focuses on Bag End, the home of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins in the fantasy series.

The even was for an April 5th signing by the model’s designer at Lego’s flagship London store, according to the article.

This is my favorite upgrade on the new M4 MacBook Air.

The mute key’s label now features a speaker with a strike through it so it more closely resembles the icon that appears in macOS when pressed, as spotted by iCulture. Apple made the change on the new iPad Air’s Magic Keyboard, too.

Victrola’s Sonos-compatible turntables can now wirelessly stream to other speakers.

Through an upcoming automatic software update, Victrola is expanding the wireless compatibility of its Works With Sonos turntables to include Bluetooth, Roon, and UPnP, allowing them to connect to other speakers and audio gear.

This functionality was already introduced in 2024 with the premium Victrola Stream Sapphire, but is now being added to its Stream Carbon, Stream Pearl, and Stream Onyx turntables, as spotted by Engadget.

Shark’s new tower fan blasts air in two directions.

The $249.99 Shark TurboBlade fan has a feature you won’t find on Dyson’s bladeless tower fans. Its design features a pair of vents that can be independently adjusted to send air to both sides of a room.

The oscillating vents can also be oriented horizontally or vertically, but the best feature might be a sleep mode that dims status lights, mutes chimes, and reduces the fan speed for quieter operation over night.

The Steam Deck Folio is the Kickstarter case I didn’t know I wanted.

Thin enough to fit inside the Steam Deck’s case, protects joysticks and screen, unfolds to become a magnetic stand — dare I back it? Well, Shane Blomberg tells me his partners have lined up a factory that serves Incipio and Tumi; his partner Scott Truong has designed goods for both those brands; it takes minimal tooling to make this a reality, and that they’ve successfully shipped a pair of previous Kickstarters.

Oh, and they say they’ve already tested the magnets to ensure no interference with the Steam Deck’s fan.

Bang & Olufsen has resurrected an iconic ‘70s turntable for $35,000.

The Beogram 4000 series turntable is an iconic piece of ‘70s hardware that’s available once again through another collaboration between Bang & Olufsen and Saint Laurent. But while the B&O Beogram 4000C comes in a fancy case made from ziricote wood, your $35,000 isn’t getting you entirely new hardware.

These are original ‘70s units that have been hand-picked, restored, and updated by B&O with new cartridges and preamps. Only 10 of them will be available.

Just 10 units of the Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4000c Saint Laurent Rive Droite Edition by Anthony Vaccarello turntable are available.

What if Nintendo Switch, but foldable?

Samsung Display’s bendy concept displays are always stunning, if not always practical. But rather than debate just how many compromises a foldable portable would require, or how pricy it might be, I choose to bask in its prototype glory!

This exoskeleton was my secret weapon at CES this year.

Did they rebuild me better, stronger, faster? Not exactly! As I explain in my full story, the Hypershell Pro X made me feel like I had an extra energy tank, like the ones exosuit-wearing bounty hunter Samus Aran obtains in the Metroid games. Oh, and it works when you’re riding a bicycle, too!

The Escura InstantSnap camera looks like an instant photo.

Arriving sometime in April 2025 for around $45, the InstantSnap features a fun design resembling a photo that just popped out of a Polaroid camera. Inside its white frame is a transparent viewfinder with framing guides, but there’s no screen, and images and videos are saved to a microSD card.

Even if you’re into a lo-fi aesthetic, the 1.3-megapixel InstantSnap’s image quality might disappoint, based on sample images the company shared with Digital Camera World.

There’s a shutter button hidden on the front of the InstantSnap camera below the viewfinder, and a slider switch on the side for selecting video or photo modes.
The camera has a fixed focus and is locked to a 1/125 shutter speed so you’ll potentially want to stick to taking photos with lots of light to get usable shots.

Is Brother still a keeper?

We’ve said before you should buy a Brother printer because “It will be fine!” But maybe that’s not so anymore: In a video spotted by Toms Hardware, YouTuber Louis Rossman says Brother has followed the rest of the printer industry into the darkness with user-hostile, anti-aftermarket ink software updates.

We’ve reached out to Brother for more information, and we’ll update you when we know more.

Shure’s mobile stereo mic is now wireless.

The MV88+ condenser mic has been Shure’s solution for recording stereo audio in multiple polar patterns with a phone or in a camera shoe. An updated version out today can now connect wirelessly to a MoveMic receiver or a smartphone with a range of 100 feet, which can be great for capturing field recordings far away from where your camera is without running cables.

However, there is no backup if that Bluetooth signal has interference.
