How getting laid off from my entry-level digital video producer job led me to become a TV executive producer within 2 years: In 2020, I got laid off and was collecting unemployment. I had to make a decision: A. Get another job at a company ("not risky"). B. Make my side hustle film projects my full-time gig ("risky"). I decided to take the risk and go 100% all-in on my film projects for a year straight. I downgraded my living situation, cut expenses, picked up part-time work when necessary, and dedicated my time towards building a body of work. 1 year later, I sold the original film concept for what is now my first unscripted TV show on Prime Video & Amazon Studios. Every rejection is a lesson. It forced me to re-evaluate, adapt, and figure out a way to keep going. The REAL risk was staying at a job that wouldn't value or promote me for years. Selling a one-trick-pony YouTube channel for $82M where guests simply eat spicy chicken wings is a triumph. If you’re in old school media you’ll be dazed and confused. Go to a think tank, suggest Hot Ones as one of your main ideas of the year, you’d get a sideways look.  Which is probably why lame duck legacy media is lagging behind the modern pop culture. Buzzfeed were distressed sellers, Soros got a bargain. Each programme gets multi-million views on YouTube. You can micro buy episodes on Amazon. The queue of superstars desperate to appear is A list. They turned Kamala Harris down. Heidi Klum stripped to her bra – that was a hell of a show. Gordon Ramsay got 129M views – had to borrow the loo roll. The presenter is bald, bearded, one step up from a trainspotter, the production values are (wonderfully) simple and cheap. You don’t even see them cooking the damn wings. But the guests – all puffing a film, TV show, book – are clambering over each other to appear, guaranteed exposure to tens of millions, the new on point PR gateway.  It’s not Parky or Lorraine’s couch anymore. Or even Piers Morgan. The Fine Bros were miles ahead with their React Series, Gogglebox for social. Gary Neville’s Overlap and spin-offs must be worth £100M on this basis. What did I see during the recent Election. Our big media companies putting out “me too” talking head shows which had the creativity of an amoeba. SKY Sport at night? Journos from the big mastheads broadcasting from their bedrooms, branded by their MFI bookshelves. I’m not suggesting everything is dumbed down – there’s enough clickbait rubbish served to me already. But it’s light and shade. Key to it all - translating content and hyper-engagement into revenue. Hot Ones have cracked it.

TV Production Companies struggle to understand the psychology behind Social Media Content. 1. Viewers want hooks, not substance. 2. Production Companies treat Creators as "On-Air Talent" when they are much more than that. Engage Creators in a "360" type capacity. 3. Pay them to promote through their channels and do not micro-manage them. 4. Ask the Creator how they could best engage their audience before their appearance. 5. Find an attorney who understands Creator deals. I have watched big law partners botch this. 6. Collect data - Understand pros & cons, and how to improve moving forward. 7. Repurpose - Have a media buying strategy to promote the publicity of the Creator. The process is simple, it just feels different. What am I missing?

I received an LOI + down pmt to purchase my brand, FORIJ……… here is the reality: It’s not all 🌈 & ☀️, nor is it straightforward. 🏆 From a personal standpoint, it’s a win ⚰️ From a strict ROI + investment lens, it’s a loss (The sale value is less than the book value) So where does it net out? Depending on your involvement with FORIJ, the answer varies, but personally, this is my perspective 👇 First, let me introduce you to a new term: TVOK™️ < The Time-Value of Knowledge > 👂 *insert finance ppl tuning in* It means that knowledge available now is worth more than knowledge available in the future. 🙋🏼‍♂️ My perspective: The volume & value of knowledge gained for all involved parties (very quickly in the grand scheme of things) outweighs the lack of ROI Put with emojis: 🧠 🔋 > 💰 ✍️ further details: Investors & partners got to witness / participate in… Myself and other team members got to execute in… A complete business lifecycle: 💡 idea > build > ship 🔁 iterate > scale > sell —> all within 3 yrs For most, the knowledge gained here may require 20+ years of ‘normal’ job experience 🔜 More intimate detail that no one wants to talk about in the coming days / weeks … I.e 💴 financial details Note - I am legally obliged to state that TVOK™️ is a pending trademark of Will Nitze & I did not explicitly get his permission to use it here today

🏔 Paramount Global is officially merging with the production company Skydance. On its first investor call following news of the merger, the company unveiled a new logo as part of a presentation to investors. It reads more like the launch of a private equity firm than an entertainment company. The new logo uses Paramount’s legacy mountain motif and circle of stars, but replaces the media company’s script wordmark with a new serif version that gently arcs with a curved line underneath. It’s set in what appears to be the same font and arrangement as the Skydance logo. The traditional all-caps serif and thin strokes, when paired with its royal blue background, creates a wordmark resembling those in corporate consulting and investing, like McKinsey or Citadel, rather than other entertainment companies and streaming services, which largely use script or sans serif type. 2024 was a tough year by anyone’s measure that included a challenging publishing landscape in the aftermath of iOS17, an industry reckoning with how to measure its audience, beloved podcast companies sunsetting, and massive layoffs from seemingly every company in podcasting. Even a bankruptcy for good measure. And yet… We’re still seeing a vibrant community that’s seeing more growth than most other mediums. There are still blockbuster deals seemingly every other month, we’re still seeing podcast adaptations to other mediums, and we’re still exploring all new kinds of business models – for better and worse (plus whatever your views on AI in podcasting are). And true or not – there are a LOT of people who think our industry was THE story in the 2024 US elections. Direct to consumer... Another concept sometimes seen by rights owners as either a newly found golden goose or even worse.... a lifejacket to be used in case of emergency... a big mistake in both cases. Any D2C endeavor should be seen as a long term investment into your relationship with your fans through the power of content. It's not a quick fix in case some media rights deal didn't go through, it's not a magical recipe to extract value from data, it's not a cheap way to attack a new market, it's never a quick win to make money and it should never be build against traditional media partners but next to them or even better in some cases along with them. In a new sports media world where exclusivity doesn't command the same premium as before, in such a disrupted period where new competition can emerge at every corner and partners disapear just as quickly, it's even more important to take matter into your own hands and build a long term plan for a global platform with the proper partners on tech, commercial and distribution sides. Oh and one last thing, having your own platform shouldn't stop you from having a open minded social media strategy, it's about getting your fans where they are and maximizing your footprint, it will not cannibalize your platform.

Bloomberg reported on the wins Jordan, CEO of Hampton, has got from MoneyWise, a show we produce. These results are not unique, so today we're launching Authority, a new podcast service for CEOs that earns loyal attention with as little as 3 hours of your time per week. If you're a founder or CEO you know that your personal brand is a key leverage point for your company's growth. But how do you stand out from all the other content out there, and how do you do that without a ton of spare time you just don't have? We've done this for Sam Parr and the CEO of his company, Hampton, Jordan DiPietro. Their show has reached hundreds of thousands of listeners in the first 6 months and has resulted in a ton of signups to their high ticket community. We've done it for many others as well. So Jackie, the producer on Hampton's podcast told me we 𝗵𝗮𝗱 to create a dedicated service for founders who want a show like MoneyWise. She told me there are a ton of people out there who are desperate for this. So she's decided to give away her entire approach to making the best shows, and built out a service and team to create more video podcasts that actually get listeners but without it being an insane time suck to the hosts. We're serious about quality, though. We're scaling this carefully and so right now are only onboarding 2 new clients per month for the Authority service.
