Plans to demolish almost half of the 102 E. Poplar St. building in downtown Walla Walla have been filed with the city.

Natural Grocers, an organic grocery store that also provides grab-and-go style meals, could potentially replace the Banner Bank-owned location, according to city documents filed Friday, Feb. 28.

A representative of Natural Grocers was contacted about the potential development but declined to comment.

Pam Ransier, Walla Walla's administrative permit coordinator, said the reason for the demolition is to create a parking lot for the grocery store and to create a building entrance fit for shopping.

Three permits have been filed so far — one to create a new parking lot, one to partially demolish and alter the building and the third to reduce the parking lane width from the standard 18½ feet to 18 feet.

Ransier also said the permits have not been paid for as of Thursday, March 6, and still need to be reviewed and approved by city officials.

Walla Walla's closest Natural Grocers is in Kennewick at 751 N. Columbia Center Blvd.
