The School of Nursing has a bold vision to lead innovation in research, education and patient care — all in service of our mission to advance health quality and equity for the diverse communities we serve.
To achieve these ambitious goals, our people – faculty, staff and students – must have clarity about our school’s priorities. Our impact is greatest when we work together with a shared purpose.
About True North
True North is a framework that provides organizations and institutions clarity and direction. It guides decision-making, goal setting, resource allocation and project prioritization, ensuring that everyone within the organization is guided by a common purpose.
Our True North
Our school’s mission, vision, values and pillars, or strategic and operational priorities, collectively define our True North.
To further refine these areas and to guide our work, we have adopted five pillars:
- Innovation and Research: Increase our scholarly productivity and impact.
- Education Programs: Educate diverse health leaders and scientists through premier academic programs.
- Clinical Integration: Increase opportunities for faculty and students to practice at UCSF Health.
- Financial Stewardship: Achieve short- and long-term financial stability.
- Our People: Foster an inclusive culture that prioritizes growth and belonging within our diverse community.
The True North Pyramid is a visual aid that depicts the core elements of our True North. It is a simple visual reminder of what the school is focused on and why. (Click to enlarge.)
With True North, we all work towards the success of all pillars. While our administrative offices will lead key initiatives within their related pillars, true progress on our schoolwide strategic goals depends on collective ownership and collaboration across all pillars. Everyone plays a vital role in strengthening these foundations and ensuring their long-term success.
