A parliamentary working group headed by Parliamentary Speaker Paula Risikko wants to establish a lobby register to improve transparency regarding possible interest groups influences on MPs in Finland.

All persons and organisations who lobby politicians would be required to add their information to the registry. Lawmakers themselves would face no new obligations.

The working group said the registry should initially cover government level decision making, later being extended to municipal and regional decision making organs.

Risikko's group is calling for the registry -- already in use in the European Parliament -- to be implemented during the next government term.
