An Israeli game firm is set to buy Finnish game studio Seriously Digital Entertainment, according to reports by various media organisations.
Finnish business paper Kauppalehti reported on the deal on Tuesday, saying that sources it interviewed estimated the value of the transaction at between 230 and 350 million euros. Meanwhile tech news site Venture Beat put a price tag of 247 million euros (275 million dollars) on the deal.
Established in 2013, Seriously posted profits of 0.3 million euros on revenues of 59 million euros.
Seriously founder and creative director Petri Järvilehto told Kauppalehti that this year the firm is on course to post revenues of between 116 and 125 million euros. Järvilehto, who is also a Rovio alumnus, added that there were several candidates interested in purchasing the Finnish game maker.
"Their technological expertise in data analytics, artificial intelligence and programmatic advertising is the best in the field and way ahead of us. Our specialty is in creative content and branding," Järvilehto told KL.
Seriously is known for its compelling puzzle game Best Fiends, set in a miniature universe that pits a squad of bugs against menacing slugs. So far players have downloaded the game and its different elements more than 100 million times and nearly two million players use the original application daily.
Playtika is best known for casino mobile games, but it has been looking to gain a foothold in the entertainment market with various purchases.
Last year the US game giant Zynga, the maker of the hugely popular Farmville title, purchased Finnish firm Small Games for 610 million euros.
