Finland’s state-owned airline Finnair has cancelled all flights to mainland China until 28 March because of the novel coronavirus outbreak in the Asian country.
"Finnair [is cancelling] flights to Beijing Capital Airport and to Shanghai during March 1-28, 2020 (until the end of the winter season), as the coronavirus situation has led to a temporary decline in air travel between China and Europe," the company announced in a statement on Friday.
The company has also cancelled one flight a day to Hong Kong, leaving one flight per day still running to the territory.
Finnair previously cancelled flights to Nanjing, Beijing Daxing and Guangzhou because of the decline in demand from Chinese tourists.
The airline said passengers can change the dates of their flights or receive a full refund by contacting its customer service department.
The company announced on Thursday that it was starting co-determination talks with unions because of the coronavirus outbreak. The talks affect some 600 long-haul pilots.
Finnair's media relations director Päivyt Tallqvist said on Thursday the airline was preparing for a prolongation of the situation.
The firm reiterated that the financial impact of the cancellations would be "relatively limited".
