Eleven students attending the Kirkonkylä school in Mäntsälä, about 60 km north of Helsinki, have been quarantined after exposure to novel coronavirus last Thursday when schools in Finland re-opened.
According to the Keski-Uusimaa social and health care joint municipal authority (Keusote), a member of teaching staff at the school tested positive for the virus, prompting the quarantine decision.
The local health authority said that the infected staff member is in good condition and receiving care at home.
Parents of the affected children were informed about the situation via phone and Wilma, the home-school communication system. The local health authority said that it would contact the children placed in quarantine as soon as possible.
Last weekend 17 pupils and four teachers at Porvoo's Linnanjoki school were quarantined after one student tested positive for the virus. Principal Päivi Outinen has said that the infected student is doing well.
On Monday two primary schools in Helsinki also announced that students and staff had been quarantined after exposure to infected persons. One school in Itäkeskus, eastern Helsinki, said that one student and two staff members had been placed in quarantine. Another in Kannelmäki reported that 14 pupils and four staff members had gone into quarantine.
