The All Points North podcast began its party leader interviews ahead of April's local elections with Finns Party leader Jussi Halla-aho.

Among other topics, APN asked why his supporters seem to be Covid vaccine-hesitant.

"I think the Finns Party as an anti-mainstream party attracts people who are in general critical of everything, and critical of somebody high up telling them what to do," he told APN, but confirmed that he would be vaccinated when it was his turn as well as encourage his party's supporters to do the same.

While running to be mayor of Helsinki, Halla-aho said his main goal was to attract ballots as candidates securing a lot of votes will lead to a greater proportion of seats for the party.

APN listeners have been eager to send in their questions for party leaders. One audience question we put to Halla-aho concerned whether Helsinki would consider making English one of the capital's official languages as English speakers constitute a major language group in the city.

"Absolutely not," he said.

APN will air interviews with all of Finland's party leaders in the run-up to the 18 April election. Next week's show will feature our meeting with Interior Minister and Green League chair Maria Ohisalo.
