Several complaints have been made to the Chancellor of Justice about the postponement of municipal elections, the office has confirmed to news agency STT.

The Registry Office at the Chancellor of Justice added that by Monday morning at least seven complaints had been lodged, with a further two pending.

Minister of Justice Anna-Maja Henriksson (SPP) announced over the weekend that the municipal elections would be postponed from April to June due to the worsening coronavirus situation. Eight parties out of nine supported the decision to postpone the election by two months.

The new election day is 13 June.

The Chancellor of Justice decides on complaints concerning the government as well as ministries, and has the power to investigate complaints if they give rise to suspicions of unlawful conduct or breach of duty.
