Finns Party candidates in the county council elections are most likely to have a criminal record, according to analysis by newspaper Helsingin Sanomat which showed that candidates from all parties in this year's election are less likely to have a criminal past than those who ran in local elections last year.
Some 6.3 percent of candidates running on a Finns Party ticket had been charged with a criminal offence between 2016 and 2021.
That figure is higher than the other parliamentary parties in this election, but down from the 8.2 percent of the party's 2021 municipal election candidates who had a criminal background.
The Left Alliance was second, with three percent of their candidates having had a recent run-in with the law. That's down from 4.1 percent in last year's municipal elections.
The Swedish People's Party had the lowest proportion of candidates with a criminal background.
HS pointed out that being charged does not mean that the candidates were all convicted of offences.
