Essayah Surprise Choice to Lead Christian Democratic Parliamentary Group
Sari Essayah has been unanimously chosen the new chair of the Parliamentary Group of the Christian Democratic Party. The position had been vacated by Päivi Räsänen, who was named the party's chairwoman last week.

Originally the post was expected to go to former party Chairman Bjarne Kallis, who finally decided to withdraw his name from consideration.
Kallis said that he made his decision with the interest of the party in mind, and the need to bring new faces to leadership positions among the Christian Democrats.
