”Every play did his job, and the fight was good,” said KuPS coach Esa Pekonen. “We had some good moments in possession as well.”
The other Finnish teams in Europa League action were less successful. TPS Turku lost 1-0 at home to a last-minute Geoffrey Cabeke goal against Belgian club KVC Westerlo, while FC Honka were defeated by the same scoreline in their away leg against the Swedish side BK Häcken. Mathias Ranegie scored for the Swedes.
On Wednesday HJK Helsinki beat Welsh club Bangor City 3-0 in Wales, all but securing their passage to the next round of the Champions League.
The second legs will be played next week.
