Flow Festival kicks off

Flow Festival, Helsinki’s annual celebration of popular music and city culture, kicked off this Friday in Suvilahti. The three-day festival presents an eclectic variety of artists including hip-hop star Kanye West from the U.S., Swedish Lykke Li and Norwegian electronic group Röyksopp.

Ticket sales for the festival have been brisk this year. Though there are still some day tickets left for Friday and Sunday, three-day-tickets covering the entire festival were sold out by midsummer.

Now in its eighth year, the event has grown into one of the major city festivals in Europe. Having doubled its audience each year, last year about 50,000 people took part in the festival.

The Flow Festival started as a small happening held at the old VR warehouses, demolished to give way to the new Helsinki Music Centre. Since 2007, the festival has been celebrated in Suvilahti.
