Helsinki’s HJK win football's Finnish Cup

The Helsinki Football Club HJK trounced rivals KuPS of Kuopio in extra time to win football's Finnish Cup 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

A goalless result after the final whistle forced the game into extra time, with veteran Jari Litmanen putting HJK into the lead in the second period of extra time. Alexander Ring sealed the result by scoring the second goal for HJK in the 116th minute of the game.

KuPS were able to pull back one consolation goal, scored by Markus Joenmäki, to make the final result 2-1. The Helsinki club is also the clear favourite to win the Veikkaus League Championship.

Pk-35 of Vantaa take women's trophy

Meanwhile, in women’s football, PK-35 of Vantaa crushed Ilves of Tampere to take the women’s championship title. A pre-game favourite, PK-35 went into the lead early in the game with an opening goal from Jenae Seppälä.

Emma Kete scored the second goal to hand the cup to the Vantaa club – their first ever national trophy win.
