Review time in labour market

Both employers' and employees' negotiators met for talks with Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen and Finance Minister Jutta Urpilainen on Wednesday afternoon as part of a government effort to bring the two sides in wage negotiations closer together. If the labour market organisations are able to reach agreement on a wide-ranging incomes deal, the government is willing to support the agreement. However, Finance Minister Jutta Urpilainen said that it has not yet decided what form this help might take.

Weeks of efforts to reach a national wage deal came to a dead end on Tuesday.

The Metalworkers' Union, the Trade Union Pro and the Finnish Electrical Workers' Union have filed a strike warning and implemented an overtime ban. The threatened strike is to start on the 21st of October.
