The Finnish Defence Forces say they will take samples from the five patients to the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) for analysis.

The Defence Forces say they are monitoring the situation at other brigades as well. However, there are no plans to restrict leave for conscripts.

Thedi Ziegler, the laboratory director at THL, says there may have been earlier cases of swine flu in Finland this autumn. However, samples from those patients were not analysed by the THL.

Ziegler adds that the current virus is very similar to last year’s virus.
