In some areas, Sonera is increasing all slower connections to 2 megabits per second. For many customers, this means their monthly fee may be rising by as much as one third.
The company says that as of February it will no longer offer speeds of less than 2 megabits in areas where it shares cables with other operators, as this is no longer financially worthwhile. It says this will affect less than 40-thousand customers.
The company denies that it is forcing customers to buy a more expensive product, pointing out that they are free to switch operators at any time.
