Blaze Destroys Furniture Plant in Central Ostrobothnia

A fire Wednesday destroyed a furniture plant at Lestijärvi in Central Ostrobothnia. There were workers in the facility when the blaze started, but no fatalities. Preliminary estimates set the damage at over seven million euros.

The fire broke out in the Hirviset Oy furniture plant just after midnight, destroying around 3000 square metres of the 5000 square metre facility, including its raw materials warehouse. Storage facilities for finished products were spared by the flames.

An investigation has started into the cause of the fire. It is thought that it was touched off by machinery.

The owners, Incap Furniture, say that the company will try to shift employees to some of its other plants until the Lestijärvi facility is repaired or entirely rebuilt.
