Many have learned that their digi boxes do not always work without an additional tweak or two.
Even a recently purchased digi box may require additional updates to do what it is supposed to. Updates can be received either directly with the remote control, through online updates, or by taking the set to an electronics store. Naturally, the easiest way to initiate updates is on the couch at home.
"The digi box needs updating if the sound, picture or subtitling is malfunctioning. As long as everything is working, there is no need to seek or even worry about upates," assures Alpo Siitonen, Director of Services at Digita.
Today, the majority of digi boxes sold are the kind that receive automatic updates on their own, or can download the updates through the internet. Meanwhile, the Finnish Consumer Agency says a recently purchased set should be operable even without updates. In any event, all users should be able to access necessary updates.
Digita, the company responsible for national transmission and broadcasting networks, says that as digi boxes become more and more advanced, the need for updates will decrease.
Households still receiving their channels through antennas can watch TV the old fashioned way until early September. For now, the analogue channels can be viewed via the cable network until the end of February next year.
