Javelin Thrower Voted Athlete of the Year

Finland's athlete of the year, Tero Pitkämäki, was crowned Tuesday night at a gala event. Javelin thrower Pitkämäki was voted athlete of the year by the Sportswriters' Association of Finland. He made his mark this year by winning a gold medal at the Athletics World Championships in Osaka.

In second place was skier Virpi Kuitunen, who wowed fans by winning just about everything a skier could win last season. She took home three gold medals from the championships in Sapporo, won the new Tour de Ski tournament and topped it all off with a World Cup Championship.

Formula One Champion Kimi Räikkönen came in third.
