Authorities advise against swimming in Tampere lake after kids get sick

Some dozen children vomited after swimming in Lake Tesomajärvi over the weekend. The City of Tampere took water samples from the lake, and authorities now warn against swimming in Tesomajärvi waters.

Environmental authorities hung signs at Tesomajärvi beaches on Monday warning swimmers of poor water quality.

The authorities received many complaints about stomach problems from people who swam in the lake. As such, it seems likely that the water may be contaminated.

Tampere’s environmental health officials took water samples from Tesomajärvi, located in the western Tampere region, on Monday. Preliminary results of water tests are expected by early Tuesday.

When water samples were taken at both Tesomajärvi beaches last week, no impurities were found.
