Writing in his blog Thursday Rovio chief executive Mikael Hed said that the company will be considering clipping up to 130 jobs from its nest in Finland, representing 16 percent of the workforce.
Hed said that growth in the sector hadn’t been as strong as expected, prompting the simplification of the firm’s three key business areas - games, media and consumer products.
“It is never easy to consider changes like this, but it is better to do them sooner rather than later,” Hed wrote in his blog.
Back in 2009 Rovio soared into news headlines when its whimsical game Angry Birds captured the imagination of gamers across the globe to dominate game download charts.
The game's success spawned a number of lucrative spin-offs including themed play parks, candies, clothing, drinks and other consumer merchandise. A film, _Angry Birds: The Movie, _was also said to be in the works.
