Rovio decides to send home 110 workers

Finnish gaming company Rovio said Thursday that it had concluded restructuring talks initiated in October. At the time the company said that it was looking to cut 16 percent of its workforce due to slower than anticipated growth.

The maker of the highly popular Angry Birds franchise announced Thursday that it had decided to cut 110 positions from the company as part of a re-organisation exercise.

The company also decided to close its unit in Tampere to focus operations at its head office in Espoo in the capital region.

Back in October when Rovio disclosed plans to streamline the company, it originally estimated that it would need to drop 130 jobs, representing 16 percent of the workforce.

Angry Birds captured the imagination of gamers across the globe to dominate game download charts. The game's success spawned a number of lucrative spin-offs including themed play parks, candies, clothing, drinks and other consumer merchandise. A film, _Angry Birds: The Movie, _was also said to be in the works.

The firm's juggernaut momentum also saw the creation of new games, such as Bad Piggies and Amazing Alex, however they failed to achive the cult status of the original roll-out.
