The Ministry of Defence announced that it will increase the daily allowance for conscripts, women performing voluntary military service and reservists.

The decision was made under the leadership of Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen (NCP).

"I consider it important that despite the difficult economic situation of the state we are able to increase the daily allowances of conscripts, volunteers and reservists," Häkkänen said in a press release.

The daily allowance for conscripts and women performing voluntary military service will be increased from the current 5.90 euros to 6.10 euros for the first 165 days or six months of service.

The allowance will be increased from 9.80 euros to 10.15 euros for service lasting more than 165 days, but less than 255 days.

For service longer than 255 days, the daily allowance will be increased from 13.65 euros to 14.15 euros.

Daily allowances in the Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) are the same for all, regardless of rank for conscripts and female volunteers. However, women are paid an extra allowance of 1.50 euros per day for personal equipment not provided by the FDF, such as underwear and menstrual supplies.

The annual cost impact of the increase in daily allowances for conscripts and women in active service is 1,613,098 euros and 33,200 euros for reservists.

The increases will be covered by the operational expenditure of the Defence Forces.

The increases will come into effect on 1 January 2025.
