Nearly one in four Finns plans to reduce their processed meat intake, according to a new poll for the Uutissuomalainen news group.
More than half of respondents said that they did not plan to reduce their consumption of these products. Women were more likely than men to say that they plan to eat less processed meat.
Processed meat is defined as a meat product that has been smoked or salted or that contains added nitrates to improve shelf life or flavour.
According to Finland's new nutritional guidelines people should eat as little processed meat as they can.
The poll was conducted by Tietoykkönen between 4 and 11 December. They interviewed a thousand people and the margin of error in the poll is +-3.1 percentage points.
