Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (NCP) called for a cross-party meeting of parliamentarians to be held on Tuesday, the PM's office told news agency STT on Monday.
Meanwhile, Sweden's Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard has called a quickly arranged meeting with lawmakers in Stockholm, according to Swedish news agency TT. According to Minister Stenergard, they will discuss the Ukraine situation.
Discussions about ending Russia's war in Ukraine took dramatic turns at the Munich Security Conference over the weekend.
Orpo, who attended the conference on Friday, said that "Europe must secure its place at the negotiation table for Ukraine's peace".
But on Saturday, it was reported that US President Donald Trump's administration would begin negotiations to end the war between Ukraine and Russia in the coming days in Saudi Arabia. It then emerged that Europe would not have a seat at the negotiating table for Ukraine peace talks.
That day, Orpo said that Finland must focus on peace in Ukraine, emphasising the need for US involvement in Ukraine's peacekeeping efforts.
The leaders of a number of European countries have said they are prepared to send peacekeepers to Ukraine. For example, UK PM Keir Starmer has said he is ready to do so while Sweden has not ruled out the possibility.
On Sunday, Finnish President Alexander Stubb suggested that the US lacks a clear strategy on how to proceed with the peace negotiations. He also called for more action and less talk from European leaders.
According to Politico, Trump administration officials are planning to begin peace talks with Ukrainian and Russian representatives at a meeting in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. The political news outlet noted that the negotiations in the Middle Eastern country came as a surprise to Ukraine.
However, news agency AFP reported on Monday evening a US State Department spokesperson saying that the meetings between the US and Russian officials in Saudi Arabia should not be seen as a "negotiation" on Ukraine.
"I don't think that people should view this as something that is about details or moving forward in some kind of a negotiation," Tammy Bruce said on Monday, according to AFP.
According to newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, leaders from a number of European countries met for an "emergency summit" about the Ukraine situation on Monday, pointing out that Finland was not included.
It reported that the informal meeting would be attended by the heads of state from Germany, the UK, Italy, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands and Denmark, which would represent the Nordic and Baltic countries.
However, why Finland was not included remained unclear, according to the paper.
Edited for clarity and later added Helsingin Sanomat's reporting on the meeting of some European heads of state on Monday.
