Radion sinfoniaorkesterin konsertti - Play in Yle Areena

Music and artists from the world elite

PLEASE NOTE: In view of the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus situation, the Finnish Government has on March 12, 2020, issued a recommendation that all public events attended by more than 500 persons be cancelled until the end of May. Audiences will not therefore be permitted to attend concerts by the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in the Helsinki Music Centre’s Concert Hall between March 13 and May 27. The orchestra will, however, continue working as usual and its concerts will be broadcast live on Yle Radio 1 and Yle Areena, and the recorded concert will be shown on Yle Teema and Yle TV 1 until further notice.

A more appropriate artist to conduct Shostakovich’s 14th symphony would be difficult to find. It is really an extended song cycle, the most unusual of his 15 symphonies. The Pathétique is the last thing Tchaikovsky wrote, and was given its title by his brother Modest. Tchaikovsky said what he wanted to say and took his leave of life nine days after the premiere.
