Nicholas Collon & Alice Coote & Brenden Gunnell

George Walker was the first West Indian-American to win the Pulitzer Prize in Music – and that was back in 1996. Lyric for strings is one of the most evergreen works by this highly-acclaimed composer. The powerful words are a cogent feature of both the orchestral suite originally of stage music by Sibelius and of Mahler’s Song of the Earth. Settings of classical Chinese poems, the latter addresses life and its transient nature.
