Abstract
1,148,211. Sack holders. MINISTER OF PUBLIC BUILDING & WORKS, and J. S. CONN. 24 March, 1966 [29 Dec., 1964], No. 52709/64. Heading B8C. In a disposable sack holder in which the mouth of a sack is held between a band 11, Fig. 2, and clamping members 20, 21, the band is pivotable on the frame 1 of a sack holder and is adapted to be spring-held by over-centre means in a horizontal or inclined position as required. In all the embodiments, the frame 1 comprises uprights 3 joined at their upper ends by a horizontal tube 2 and carrying wheels (4), Fig. 1 (not shown). Feet (6) and handles (7) are also provided on the uprights. The tube 2 is provided with brackets 8 on which the band 11 is pivoted. Arms 20, 21 hinged on the tube 2, are fixed together to grip the sack against the band 11 by a toggle clamp (23), Fig. 1 (not shown). The band may be provided with a groove 11a and the arms may be bowed inwards to ensure a secure grip on the sack. In one embodiment, the brackets 8 are provided with slots 9, Fig. 2, in which lugs 14, carried by plates 13 on the band 11, are engaged. Two springs 15 connect the band 11 to a bar 16 which is located in slots 10 in the bracket to provide the over-centre action. A funnel 18 which fits inside the mouth of a sack, is also pivotally mounted on the frame, slots 19a in plates 19 on the funnel engaging round lugs 14. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the funnel is replaced by a lid (24) operated by a pedal (25) through a linkage (26). In a second embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), springs (32) are attached between two rods (29), (31), received in holes (28) and arcuate slots (30) respectively in the brackets (27). These springs serve to hold the rod (31) at one or other end of the slots. A rod (36) is engaged in L-shaped slots (33) in the bracket to provide the band pivot. Plates (34) on the band (11) are provided with notches (35) which engage the rod (31) and with holes through which the hinge rod (36) extends. When the band is moved upwards, the plates (34) rotate, the hinge rod (36) is moved along the horizontal limb of the L-shaped slot and simultaneously the rod (31) moves along the arcuate slot. Projecting from the bracket (27) are lugs (37) on which a funnel (38) is pivoted. If desired, the funnel (38) may be replaced by a lid, which may be pedal operated as previously described. In a modification, the L-shaped slots (33) may be replaced by straight slots inclined so that the upper end is nearer the band (11) than the lower. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), springs (57) extending between plates (46) connect the band to a crank rod (45), which is received in slots (44), (43) in fixed brackets (42). The plates (46) are provided with slots (49), engaging the rod (45), and slots (47) which engage lugs (48) on the bracket. When the band is moved to its inclined position, the plates (46) rotate about the lugs (48) and the rod (45) moves out of engagement with the notches (49) along the surface (50). In its inclined position, the band is held with a connecting plate (51) engaging stops (56). Apertures (52) provide lands (54) which form hinge pins about which a funnel (not shown) or a lid (not shown) may be hinged. In a further embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), springs 63 connect a movable rod 62 and hinge rod 60 to form the over-centre device. In all these embodiments, the horizontal tube 2 may be fastened to a vertical wall and the lower part of the frame omitted. The band and funnel are removable for cleaning.
