Abstract
1,228,038. Sliding clasp fasteners. LIGHTNING FASTENERS Ltd. 22 Oct., 1969 [6 Aug., 1968], No: 37521/68. Heading E2S. A sliding clasp fastener stringer comprises a carrier tape 10 which has been cut from a relatively wide fabric, a series of coupling elements 14 formed from a single plastics filament of the meander or coil type and disposed along the cut edge 11, and a braid 12 disposed along the end region of the tape, where the tape, coupling elements and braid are secured together by a line of stitching 17. In further embodiments the braid, when of synthetic textile material may be bonded to the tape, or the tape may be folded parallel to the cut edge so that the fold forms the end region, or, if of synthetic material, the tape may be folded then bonded. Also provided is the method of manufacturing a stringer by stitching a continuous filament series of coupling elements and a braid to a tape edge devoid of selvedge.
