Abstract

1413352 Polymers of haloaryl acrylates SCOTT PAPER CO 31 Jan 1973 [9 Feb 1972] Polymeric halogenated aryl acrylates of formula wherein R is a halogenated aryl group, are made by thermal or free-radical polymerization of halo-aryl acrylates. In an embodiment pchlorophenyl acrylate is polymerized under nitrogen using benzoyl peroxide at elevated temperature in toluene, the polymer being precipitated in methanol. Other polymers specified are those where R is m-chlorophenyl, ochlorophenyl, 2,4-dichlorophenyl, p-bromophenyl and p-fluorophenyl.
