Abstract

210,225. Hoare, G. Nov. 29, 1922. Compound or articulated road vehicles.-In a combined tractor and trailer vehicle the loadcarrying portion is mounted on the rear of the tractor by means of a universal joint and on a steerable two or four-wheeled undercarriage by a longitudinally slidable connection. The universal joint may consist of a spherical connection in which one intermediate shell c carried by the tractor is disposed between upper and lower shells d<2>, c<1> on the trailer body. A transversely hinged arm p projects rearwardly from the tractor and is connected by a ball joint o to a member n projecting forwardly from the undercarriage, the ball joint being midway between the tractor rear axle and the trailer axle.
