Description
A CARTON HAVING A LEAFLET THEREIN AND
METHOD OF FORMING SAME
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The following invention relates to a carton having a leaflet therein. More particularly, though not exclusively, the invention relates to a carton for receiving a medication container and its associated instruction leaflet. The invention also relates to a method of forming such a carton.
PRIOR ART
Boxes used to distribute medication usually provide an instruction/information leaflet with the medication container in the box.
It is a time consuming procedure to insert the leaflets into the carton. Such a procedure is often carried out by hand or by machinery.
Either way, considerable expense is required to insert the instruction leaflet into the carton. The leaflet in the carton often springs open under its own resilience to jam against a jar or the like within the carton. Alternatively, the leaflet might be wound about the jar. During unpackaging, a certain degree of inconvenience to the customer result from such methods of packaging.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
It is the object of the present invention to overcome or substantially ameliorate at least one of the above disadvantages.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
There is disclosed herein a carton comprising:
a base,
a number of side walls co-operating with the base to define a receiving volume for a product,
lid means extending from one or more of said side walls for covering said receiving volume, and
a flap fixed to one or more of said side walls and extending intra said receiving volume to define a pocket between the flap and said one side wall for receiving a leaflet.
There is further disclosed herein a carton comprising:
a base,
a number of side walls co-operating with the base to define receiving volume for a product,
lid means extending from one or more of said side walls fcr covering said receiving volume, and
a leaflet within said volume and attached to one of said side walls, lid or base by frangible means.
Preferably, the frangible means is adhesive.
Preferably, the adhesive is peelable adhesive.
Alternatively, the adhesive might comprise one or more spots of peelable/permanent adhesive.
Beneficially, one or more of the side walls may be provided with a tear-off panel to expose a leaflet.
There is further disclosed herein a method of forming a collapsed carton, comprising:
providing a blank of foldable material, the blank defining a base, a number of side walls, a lid, a connecting strip, and a flap to be folded alongside one of said side walls,
placing a leaflet between said one side wall and the flap,
applying adhesive to said connecting strip and/or a portion of one of the side walls to be secured thereto, and
folding the blank to form a collapsed carton with the leaflet between the flap and said one of said side walls.
There is further disclosed herein a method of forming a collapsed carton, comprising:
providing a blank of foldable material, the blank defining a base, a number of side walls, a lid and a connecting strip,
adhering a leaflet to one of said side walls, base or lid,
applying adhesive to said connecting strip and/or one of said side walls, and
folding the blank to adhere the connecting strip to one of said side walls to form a collapsed carton with the leaflet therein.
As an advantage of the above disclosed carton and/or as a result of the above described method, the leaflet is conveniently located within the carton prior to insertion into the carton of a bottle of medication or the like. That is, a separate manual or automated procedure is not required for the insertion of the leaflet into the carton at the product insertion stage.

Fig. 6 is a schematic perspective view of yet a further embodiment carton, and
Fig. 7 is a schematic perspective view of yet a further embodiment carton.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
In Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings there is schematically depicted a blank 11 formed of cardboard or the like. Any other form of material such as plastics may however be adopted. The blank 11 is depicted in a partly folded configuration (collapsed configuration).
Blank 11 folds into the carton 10 depicted in Fig. 2. Carton 10 comprises a base 12, a pair of front and rear walls 13 and a pair of side walls 14. Extending from one of the front or rear walls 13 is a folding lid 16.
Referring to Fig. 3, a flap 17 is formed integrally by a fold to side wall 14. Flap 17 extends into the interior of carton 10 to define a pocket 21 to receive a leaflet 15. Front wall 13 is secured to flap 17 by a tab 18 which is integrally folded to front wall 13. Tab 18 is secured to flap 17 by adhesive.
As an alternative, and as depicted in Fig. 4, rather than providing tab 18 as an extension of front wall 13, tab 18 may form an extension of side wall 14. As with the embodiment depicted in Fig. 3, tab 18 is to be secured to flap 1-7 by adhesive.
As an alternative to the embodiments of Figs. 3 and 4, the flap 17 may be provided with its own tab 18 for adhesion at any corner of carton 10.
In forming the carton 10 depicted in Figs. 3 and 4, a sheet of cardboard or the like is first cut into a blank 11. Before folding the blank 11 into the configuration depicted in Fig. 1, the leaflet 15 may be placed against side wall 14. That is, as shown in Fig. 1, the leaflet 15 is pre-inserted into the carton 10 prior to folding out into the configurations depicted in Figs. 2, 3 or 4.
As an alternative to the provision of a flap 17 to form a pocket 21, leaflet 15 may be secured to side wall 14 by peel-off adhesive or by way of one or more spots of permanent adhesive or semi-permanent adhesive. Such a configuration is depicted in Fig. 5.
As with the embodiments depicted in Figs. 1 to 4, the leaflet 15 is to be located within the blank 11 prior to folding into the configuration of a carton. To this end, several spots of permanent or semi-permanent adhesive may be applied to one or more of the leaflet 15 and side wall 14.
Referring now to Fig. 6, a further embodiment is depicted. In
Fig. 6, leaflet 15 may be located within carton 10 by any one of the methods described above. As an additional feature however, a tear-off strip 20 may be provided in end wall 14. Such a strip 20 would be secured to end wall 14 by weakened perforation lines. Once fully or partially detached, strip 20 reveals an aperture 19 through which leaflet 15 may be removed from carton 10.
In use of the embodiments depicted in Figs. 1 to 4, the lid 16 is simply opened in a conventional manner to reveal both a jar of medication or the like and leaflet 15. Leaflet 15 may be then readily removed from the carton.
In the embodiment depicted in Fig. 5, the leaflet 15 after opening lid 16 might simply be peeled away from side wall 14 or sheared therefrom.
The embodiment depicted in Fig. 6 may be used in an identical manner as the embodiments of Figs. 1 to 5. Additionally however, the strip 20 may be removed to reveal leaflet 15 through aperture 19, through which the leaflet may be removed.
As shown in Fig. 7, in a further embodiment, leaflet 15 may be provided with a tab 22. A tear line or perforation 23 may be provided between the tab 22 and the remainder of leaflet 15. The tab 22 may be adhered to the underside of lid 16. Alternatively, the tab may be adhered to any other internal surface of the carton.
It should be appreciated that modifications and alterations obvious to those skilled in the art are not to be considered as beyond the scope of the present invention. For example, flap 17 may be positioned to provide a pocket 21 adjacent to front or rear wall 13 rather than adjacent to side walls 14 as depicted. Additionally, flap 17 may be secured at both sides to adjacent corners of the carton.
It should further be appreciated that the carton herein may be suitable for the storage of all manner of products such as cosmetics, modelling paints, spare parts, or any other product provided with a leaflet of instructions or other advertising material or the like.
