Abstract

269,955. Feary, N. A. T. N. Jan. 2, 1926. Rackets.-The string holes of tennis, badminton and like rackets having metallic frames are lined with insulating devices of alumtanned leather, raw hide or like organic material with the object of minimizing shock and preventing failure of the strings due to chemical action or fraying. As applied to a racket having a frame of aluminium alloy, channel-shaped in cross-section, a strip 1, Figs. 1 and 3, of alum-tanned leather or raw hide, provided with perforated projections 2 is placed in the channel with the projections protruding through the holes in the frame. The projections are spread or flanged over on the inside of the frame and the stringing is proceeded with in usual manner. The bridge-piece 8 is provided with a similar strip. The strip may be situated on the inside of the frame instead of on the outside. The strip may be replaced by eyelets 11, Fig. 7, and washers 12 may be interposed before spreading or flanging over the projecting ends of the eyelets. When applied to a frame of hollow H-section, Fig. 9, two eyelets 10 may be used, and the inner end of one of the eyelets may be spread before positioning the other eyelet.
