Abstract

300,565. Ferranti, S. Z. de, and Ferranti, Ltd. June 9, 1927. Electric radiators-One or more elements each comprising a rod d of refractory resistance material and of small cross-section are arranged near the focal line of a reflector b which is parabolic in vertical cross-section and has mutually divergent ends. The reflector is carried on a stand c. The heat is radiated in a beam which diverges in a horizontal plane but neither diverges nor converges in a vertical plane. The elements are supported between flexible metal strips h and a bracket f carrying an insulating member g. The ends of the rods d engage silver-plated sockets formed in the members g, h. The strips h are enclosed by covers n. The edge of the reflector is rolled to form a tubular beading m which may house the supply leads. The rods d may have any of the cross sectional forms shown in Figs. 3a, 3<b>, 3c. A double-pole switch k enables one element to be entirely disconnected.
