Abstract

315,549. Langdon, A. G. June 18, 1928. Exhaust silencers. -A water - jacketed chamber 1 has an exhaust gas inlet 5, and surrounds an expansion chamber 4 having an exhaust 7. The internal wall of the chamber 1 has ribs or fins 3 contacting with the wall of the chamber 4 which, on the side remote from the inlet 5, has slots 6 formed therein. A fairway for the gases is formed through the fins near the inlet 5. Water from the jacket 2 may be injected through a control valve 8 into the exhaust gases. The fins 3 may be curved, or arranged as one or more helices.
