Abstract
370,903. Electric resistance furnaces. JUNKER GES., O. and SCHERZER, K., Lammersdorf, Kreis Monschau, Germany. Jan. 12, 1931, No. 976. [Class 39 (iii).] A continuous annealing furnace employs a one-piece smooth-walled muffle A of ceramic material which is elliptic in cross section and in which the resistance wires D are embedded. The material may be fused aluminium oxide. The muffle is surrounded by heat-insulating powder B arranged in a sheet-iron casing C and is provided with a conveyer or with means for pulling wire or strip material therethrough. A plurality of muffles individually controlled may be arranged end to end. Three muffles may be connected in star or delta to a three-phase supply. With a single-phase supply the second and third muffles may be series connected. A single muffle may be shaped longitudinally in the form of a catenary. In Fig. 3 a number of muffles are arranged in series in this form. The muffles are supported at the ends only on bricks F.
