[Class 100 (ii).] Rotary machines ; tripping-arrangements.- In a rotary printing-machine, the blanket cylinder or the printing-cylinder, according to whether printing is offset or direct, is provided with a gap in its surface, the impression cylinder has a projecting segment, and adjustment of the amount of overlap between the segment and the gap is provided in accordance with the length of sheet required and the depth of a heading &c. to be printed. As shown applied to an offset machine, a segmental plate p is secured by screws to an impression cylinder c co-operating with a blanket cylinder b in contact with a printing-cylinder a. The cylinders a, b are driven from the cylinder c by gears m, n, o, and the cylinder c is secured to its gear m by bolts s carried by the gear and provided with cheese heads engaging a groove u in the adjacent end of the cylinder, the connection providing means for varying the relation of the gap in the cylinder c to a gap in the cylinder b whereby the effective length of the impression surface is adjustable. An enlargement w of the groove u allows the bolts to be removed for replacement. Specification 389,621 is referred to.
