407,148. Pistons. LEWIS, E. C., 106, Marlborough Road, and KNIGHT, K. A., 17, Queens Road, both in Coventry. Nov. 26, 1932, No. 33480. Addition to 372,910. [Class 122 (i).] In pistons constructed in accordance with the parent Specification, relative movement between the piston and the connecting- rod is limited to a direction parallel to the engine crank-shaft by slotting the ball d in that direction to receive the correspondingly shaped head a of the connecting-rod. In the case of a solid ball the slot is extended to its periphery, the ball may also be made in two pieces which when assembled abut on the axis of the connecting- rod. The socket may be constructed in two parts which abut either at right angles to or on the axis of the piston. As shown in the Figure, the lower half of the socket screws in a member b<1> depending from the lower part of the cylinder head the upper half being pressed against shoulders on the root of the member b<1>. An independent screw member may be employed to secure the socket sections together. The joint between the socket sections may be made oiltight by a flanged ring.
