Abstract
439,920. Thermally-actuated valves. CASE, W. G., 66, The Ridgeway, Kenton, Middlesex. Dec. 27, 1934, No. 37100. Convention date, Dec. 28, 1933. [Class 135] [See also Groups XXXVIII, XII, and XIII] For regulating temperatures of thermic apparatus, such as the heating- apparatus of a building or refrigerating-apparatus, in accordance with external temperature conditions, the operation of the thermic apparatus is modified by a temperature sensitive device heated to a predetermined temperature and subjected to the external temperature. As shown the thermostatic apparatus subjected to the outside temperature comprises a thermostat A which is maintained at constant temperature under the action of a heating resistance B and an interrupter switch E<1> controlled by the thermostat through levers C. The heater circuit is interrupted continuously to maintain a constant temperature level, the amount of heat supplied depending upon external conditions. The heater H of a second thermostat G arranged to control the heating plant, is connected in series or parallel with the primary heater B and therefore is controlled in correspondence with the outside temperature and modifies the action of the heating system, e.g. by the control of the draught door of a boiler. In the arrangement shown, the thermostat G effects the control through a lever I which also is controlled by the thermostat F located in the boiler for effecting the normal regulation. A spring J may be provided on thermostat F in order to prevent damage to the expansible bellows of the thermostat due to mechanical shocks on the lever I. If the lever I is moved violently the collar F<3> is moved out of engagement with the nipple F<4> without imparting movement to the bellows. A similar arrangement may be provided in the thermostat G. The heaters B, H may be replaced by gas burners the supply to which is controlled by the thermostat A.
