Abstract
443,571. Boots &c. CLIFFORD, V. J., 78, Portland Place, London. Aug. 27, 1934, No. 24661. [Class 17 (ii)] A resilient support for the foot consists of a unitary device comprising an arched metal spring 12, Figs. 1 2, a pressure distributing sole 11 and a layer of spongy material 30. The device may be removably inserted in a shoe or incorporated therewith by means of a cover 32 attached to the inside of the shoe. The member 11 may consist of thin vulcanized fibre, and the spring 12 may have two laminations 13, 14, Fig. 3, extending obliquely, Fig. 2 just behind the joints between the metatarsus and the phalanges. The arch support 19 may be reinforced by longitudinal corrugations 20. A resilient heel support 23 is provided. The cushion member 30 is preferably formed of sponge rubber with gas cells filled under pressure. In a modification, a resilient cushion of sponge rubber replaces the metal spring under the heel.
